Definition
Dalle en béton coulée à même le sol, sur une couche de forme, qui ne porte que son propre poids et les charges d'usage. Elle ne fait pas partie de la structure du bâtiment.
A concrete slab cast directly on the ground, over a sub-base, that carries only its own weight and the use loads. It is not part of the building's structure.

Nuances and pitfalls
Two words, one element. Dalle sur terre-plein and dallage mean the same thing; dallage is the term used in the French standard (NF DTU 13.3).
Not a raft. A radier is a foundation that carries the building; a slab on grade carries only its own weight and the use loads.
Not a suspended floor. A suspended floor is carried by walls or beams; a slab on grade rests directly on the ground.
