Definition
Complexe de finition posé à l'intérieur d'un mur de façade : une plaque de plâtre, collée ou fixée sur ossature, souvent doublée d'un isolant. Il apporte l'isolation thermique et une surface plane, prête à peindre.
A finishing build-up fixed to the inside of an exterior wall: a plasterboard, bonded or fixed on a frame, often backed with insulation. It gives thermal insulation and a flat surface ready to paint.

Nuances and pitfalls
Doublage (n. m.), contre-cloison, cloison. The doublage is bonded or fixed against an existing wall; the contre-cloison (n. f.) is built in front of the wall, with a frame or a void; the cloison (n. f.) is a free-standing interior wall.
Doublage or external insulation? The doublage insulates from the inside, which reduces the room by a few centimeters; the isolation thermique par l'extérieur (ITE, external wall insulation) preserves the interior area.
Also for the cinema. Off site, doublage is also the replacement of a voice in a film (dubbing). By the way, have you ever watched “The Belly of an Architect”?
