Nuances and pitfalls
Several equivalents, none exact. In the US, the change order is the document signed by the owner, the contractor and the architect that changes the contract sum or time. In the UK, the usual term is variation, often ordered by instruction from the contract administrator, without both parties signing. To be confirmed by the US and UK reviewers.
False friend. Addendum looks like “avenant”, but in American construction it means a change to the bidding documents before the contract is signed. To be confirmed by the US reviewer.
Register. Common in speech and in writing. In a French office, “un avenant” without further detail often means a change to the works contract.
