Definition
Plan qui organise la pose d'éléments modulaires (carreaux, pavés, dalles, lames de plancher bois, plaques, panneaux de façade) pour que les joints tombent juste et que les coupes soient réparties, de préférence sur les bords et non au milieu.
A plan that organizes the laying of modular elements (tiles, pavers, slabs, wooden floor boards, boards, façade panels) so that the joints line up and the cut pieces are placed, preferably at the edges rather than in the middle.

Nuances and pitfalls
Not only tiling. You also calepiner pavers, slabs, wooden floor boards, plasterboard, bricks, cladding or ceiling panels. The word means the plan as well as the operation (calepiner).
Who does it? The calepinage is generally produced by the contractor, then approved by the design team, who check the starting axis and the position of the cuts.
